Woodworm
-
Woodworm refers to the larvae of certain types of beetles that feed on wood. These tiny insects bore into timber, creating small holes and tunnels as they eat through it from the inside out.
Over time, woodworm can weaken structural timbers, floorboards, joists, beams, and furniture — sometimes causing serious damage if left untreated. Signs of woodworm include tiny round holes in wood, fine powder (known as frass), and brittle or crumbling timber.
Woodworm is commonly found in damp or poorly ventilated areas, such as lofts, basements, crawl spaces, and older buildings with untreated or softwood timbers.
Early diagnosis is key to preventing long-term damage. If you suspect woodworm, a professional survey can help identify the extent of the issue and the right course of treatment.
How Dry Forge

At Dry Forge, we offer professional woodworm inspection and treatment services designed to eliminate active infestations and protect your home from future damage.
Using specialist tools and years of experience, we accurately diagnose the presence of woodworm and assess how far the infestation has spread. Once confirmed, we apply targeted treatments that penetrate deep into the timber, killing off larvae and preventing re-infestation.
Our approach doesn’t just treat the surface — we get to the root of the problem, often caused by damp and poor ventilation, which we also help you identify and resolve. By treating both the woodworm and its environmental causes, we help ensure the infestation doesn't return.
